Biography
I am Alemayehu Bekele(alex)As both an architect and a visual artist, my creative practice is defined by a passion for transforming the absolute simplicity of a single string into intricate, beautifully detailed works of art. My journey began in Addis Ababa and was refined through my architectural studies at Mekelle University, where I learned to appreciate the structural integrity of a line. By weaving sewing thread, wool, and wire between thousands of meticulously hammered nails, I bridge the gap between technical precision and fine art. My work operates in two distinct realms: one is a calculated, geometric exploration rooted in mathematical formulas to create 3D optical illusions, while the other is a free-form experimental process where I use the thread to map the raw textures of human emotion. Whether I am following a rigid architectural logic or an expressive artistic impulse, my goal is to reveal the mesmerizing complexity that can be built from the most humble of materials.
